This post made it all sink in for me.

I'd always wondered why, even though I followed my curiosity down a rabbit hole for some years, I end up so exhausted. It really does have to do with having a higher return on energy than what I put in. To feel gratified for what I did. To feel appreciated and rewarded. So important to us.

I can't wait for the full essay on this. Great stuff. Just subscribed.

Yes! Love this reflection.

If members are getting a positive return on energy from the community, they will continue to contribute and the community will continue to emerge.

Was thinking along the same lines and trying to come up with a flywheel 'formula' of turning individual member energy into collective energy and impact, with the return on energy being both individual (providing positive return to the contributing members through recognition and 'rewards') and collective (positive outcome and impact from community co-creation).

Or, in other words, return on energy through mutuality (serving both the member and the community) and agency (individual and collective activity and co-creation).
